10. GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Volunteer Coordinator is accountable to the Board of Directors under the supervision of the Station Manager. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the Broadcast, Equipment, and Studio use of CHSR is maintained as per internal policies and CRTC regulations. When performing functions in the area of broadcast, they are responsible to the Program Director, otherwise, they are considered part of the managerial team, and as such are accountable to the organization through communication with other staff, and Executive Committee.

11. DIMENSIONS:

The primary function of the Volunteer Coordinator is to rally and direct volunteer participation in the station's goals and standards, projects, sustainability, and development. S/he will achieve this through individual and group discussions and tutorials, and managerial participation in the administration of the station.

A secondary function is to assist in the general management of the station. To this end, The Volunteer Coordinator is expected to take on certain data tasks.

Due to the fact that volunteers are expected to participate in all areas of station work, the Volunteer Coordinator must also participate and be familiar with the processes and controls for the various departments.

Areas:
The Volunteer Coordinator provides administration in the areas of broadcast. They manage studio use and maintenance. They are also responsible for the use of CHSR's portable equipment during away broadcasts and certain other functions as needed. They may be required to work in other areas for projects, as they arise.

Management:
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for management of the station's studio and equipment resources, and may be placed in charge of certain projects, such as fund raising or away broadcasts. When selected for these projects, the Volunteer Coordinator is considered the manager of the project/event.

Supervision:
From time to time, grant staff are hired to work on projects for the station. Where applicable, these staff may be assigned to the Volunteer Coordinator.
The Volunteer Coordinator performs a management role in the area of Volunteer training and development, and therefore is required to supervise volunteers. For studio and equipment matters, they will be the primary supervisor of studio and equipment use. For broadcast matters, they will assist in the supervision of programmers.

12. NATURE AND SCOPE:
a. Environment of the position and functions or services provided:
CHSR FM is a campus/community radio station, administered by a full-time paid staff of three, part-time paid staff of variable number, and between 100 and 200 volunteer members drawn from the UNB-STU campus and the greater Fredericton Community. The Volunteer Coordinator position has hours which mainly correspond with the business day. S/He is expected, however, to make her/himself available for events as needed, within reason.
b.Functions performed by the Volunteer Coordinator:-
The Volunteer Coordinator will supervise the development and participation of the volunteers who join CHSR under the following areas:-
Coordination of recruitment throughout the year, but primarily in the early fall when new students arrive.-
Management of materials for use by members, including the "handbook" policy material, guidance literature, etc. -
Instruction and coordination of members responsibilities to the station, including in the area of fund raising.-
Instruction and coordination of volunteer teams for departmental duties (such as production and PSA management).-
Management of Fund Raising initiatives by volunteers including the FunDrive.-
Coordination of members complaints, disagreements, and discipline.-
The Volunteer Coordinator will assist in the area of broadcast management under the following areas:-
Checking for programmer compliance in the recording of Program Logs.-
Checking compliance of programmers through the monitoring of broadcast, recordings, and audio logs.-
Management of broadcast audit projects (SOCAN, etc.)-
Training-
Other projects as required.-
The Volunteer Coordinator will perform the following in the area of Studio Maintenance:-
Monitor studio condition and manage their care and cleaning.-
Assign, maintain, and enforce studio use rules, and a chart of users.-
Maintain a permissions list for security.-
Provide training (as part of a team), in the use of studio equipment for production and broadcast.-
The Volunteer Coordinator will ensure that all activity or event projects are reported within a reasonable time period to other staff.-
The Volunteer Coordinator will work with other staff members and volunteers from various departments to assure that the elements required for the volunteers are available and the participants informed and trained.
The Volunteer Coordinator will perform the following in the area of administration assistance:-
Manage payables and receivables.-
Maintain Filing system as required.
The Volunteer Coordinator will perform other duties, as required.

c.Specific duties:
The Volunteer Coordinator will follow specific duties as outlined in the document titled Volunteer Coordinator Duties and Responsibilities.
D. Controls and accountability:
The Volunteer Coordinator's freedom of action is constrained by the terms of the license, Mission Statement, Constitution, Advertising Policy and other policies of CHSR FM. Though the Volunteer Coordinator is responsible to the Board of Directors through the Station Manager s/he must work with the Executive Committee as representatives of the membership.
The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the development of the annual budget with specific focus on the needs of Volunteer development.

E. Contacts:
The Volunteer Coordinator will normally be present at membership meetings.
The Volunteer Coordinator will normally be present at Executive meetings.
The Volunteer Coordinator maintains weekly contact with the other paid staff at regular meetings, reporting changes, difficulties and new projects. Similarly, necessary contact is maintained with applicable department heads to assist them in fulfilling their obligations.
The Volunteer Coordinator may attend meetings of the Board of Directors as an observer, and any committee or sub committee meeting in CHSR FM as an observer.

13. QUALIFICATIONS:
Any candidate for the position of Volunteer Coordinator must have experience, preferably in Campus Community Radio or on a university campus. As well, the candidate must have very good communication skills, including strong telephone presence, strong broadcast presence, and presentation skills. The candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to write, and should be able to create visual promotions. As well, the candidate must demonstrate the ability to supervise volunteers. Strong organisational skills are required.
The qualified candidate will be outgoing and personable, highly motivated and self directed.
