Volunteerism CHSR style

CHSR is your radio station. By 'you' we mean pretty much everybody. CHSR is open to all comers. We are a community access broadcaster situated in the shared building of the St. Thomas and UNB students unions. What that leads to is a radio station which has both student and non student members who produce programming according to their own tastes after receiving excellent training from our staff.

This page should have all the information you need, but if it is lacking, come in, call or email us and we’ll try to get what you need.

Student Involvement

Yes we produce programming for students. We get most of our funding from the students of UNB and St. Thomas (Thank you!). Our Mission Statement makes a point of saying that we will produce programming of interest to students, and we take that very seriously. About 80% of our membership is students, and what they produce is of interest to them…and therefore likely of interest to other students. But further to this, we have news programming daily “The Lunchbox” a student news and information magazine program, and we broadcast the away games for both UNB and St. Thomas hockey teams. We WOULD broadcast other sports games if knowledgeable volunteers interested in becoming announcers joined and trained.

Community Involvement

It is an important and fragile right in Canada for the citizens to have access to the public airwaves. This is true for the broadcast of your favourite music genre as much as it is for your news, opinion and Public Service Announcements. You don’t have to be a student to join, get trained, and get a show. We have a lot of listeners who are not students who also appreciate what CHSR can bring to the airwaves.

Some of our longest running shows are produced by community members. They bring a wide variety of taste to the air, and have dedicated fan bases.

Groups and Clubs

Radio is an important medium for keeping a community connected. If your student or community group wants to keep your members or neighbourhood entertained and informed in a focussed broadcast, come in and sign up as a group. We’ll train you, and give you options for new members and turnover.

YOU and CHSR

Don't just sit there listening! Come in and get involved. At least come in and look around. We're sure you'll find something you'd like to do here. It's not all about being a DJ, There's lots of projects and departments that can use volunteers. Tool around the website for ideas, but most importantly, come in.
